Credit Plus Activities

Janakalyan is much active in the field of poverty alleviation and women empowerment. Since its inception, the company has been working towards the empowerment of deprived women through promotion of livelihood and other interventions. The company not only provides financial support to the women but also empowers them through different types of activities likechild protection, environmental protection like cleaning garbage, save the girl child, main streaming the education and observing International Women’s Day.
Besides, Janakalyan under takes various social welfare initiatives and interventions within its area of operation. These programmes are focused on Economic empowerment & poverty eradication, Financial inclusion & literacy, Health and nutrition, Borrower leadership and Environmental awareness. Most of these programmes are focused on value addition through knowledge
The company has a strategic partnership with Sreema Mahila Samity, Nadia, a renowned NGO in West Bengal for Credit Plus activities. Many of the programmes are implemented through them.

Medical Camps

The company regularly organizes medical camps for the benefit of the vulnerable section of the society. Few examples are provided below:

A camp was organized in Madhyamgram to facilitate blood group test

An eye checkup and cataract detection camp was held in the Bongaon branch of the Company. A team of eye specialists from Susrut Eye Hospital & Research Centre, Salt Lake, Kolkata were present to attend to the visiting group members and also the local residents. The doctors had brought in sophisticated eye examination tools for the purpose. They also took time to educate the attending people on ways to improve access to eye care services. More than 50 men and women attended the camp. Patients detected with cataract were advised to get free surgery from the Susrut Hospital at Salt Lake. Those with eye problems were given referral slips for treatment at the hospital

A free oral and breast cancer screening and awareness camp was organized at Bagda Panchayat in collaboration with Rabindranath Tagore International Institute of CardiacSciences and Narayana Multispecialty Hospital. Among the participants in the Health camp were 85 women group members and 24 other male participants.

Convergence with Government Programmes

The company regularly conducts awarenessprogrammeonvarious government sponsored social security programmes (Samajik Suraksha prokalpo) and takes the initiative to enlisted the members under different government social security schemes.

Livelihood Programmes

Economic empowermentis the best route for ushering in social empowerment. Promotion of micro-enterprises and various income generation activities, on-farm and off-farm, ensures this. In keeping with the needs of the communities and resources that the region provide the companyorganizes awareness campsas well provides training from time to time on poultry farming and blackgoatery. This is organized with the help of District Government officials.

Skill Development Trainings

Janakalyan provides skill development trainings to local women who are interested and have the entrepreneurship skills to start their own small businesses. These women are provided with the requisite skills for managing their livelihood, linking up with markets, enhancing their credit absorption capacity and credit worthiness, etc. Trainings are provided on the development of following skills:


1. Tailoring

This course is about learning to stitch a single garment like Saree blouse, Salwar Kameez, Skirt and Top etc. During the training programme, the students learn about dress measurements and techniques, anatomy of drafting garments, calculations and drafting patters and other stiching techniques.

2. Beautician Course

The course trains the women on the handling and maintenance ofequipments, tools, chemicals and dyes and services like manicure, pedicure, facial massage, hair styling, bleaching, waxing, application of mehandi, etc. Under the above two training programmesmore50 women were covered. These women were trained at the facility created at Karnojora .After completion of the training they have started their own business in their house. The next set of trainings were imparted in Kaliyaganj.

Shishu Shiksha Kendra

It is the right of every child to get basic education.In case of first generation learners, they find itdifficult to cope with the present day education. Janakalyan is committed to mainstream the children of the under privileged section. In Odisha the company isimparting primary education through its Shiksha Kendra inthe Niyali Branch. 20 children in the age group of 3 to 5 years are enlisted in this KendraIt is also operating aCoaching Centre at Duttaphulia, Nadia

Women’s Day Celebration

International Women's Day is celebrated world overevery year on the eight day of March. It is an occasion to recognize and appreciate women’s political, economic and social achievements over the decades This day was celebrated jointly by SreemaMahila Samity and Janakalyan at Duttaphulia and attended by a large number of women borrowers. The programme was inaugurated by Smt. Bani Saraswati, Board Member of Janakalyan. The women joined in a rally, raising slogan and posters related to Women’sRights. This attracted a lot of attention of the general masses and ensured raising of awareness on the issue.
